Absorber (selective coating)
Metal plate in a solar collector that captures sunlight and transfers its heat to the circulating fluid.
Pompe à chaleur air-eau
Heat pump that extracts heat from outdoor air and transfers it to water for heating or hot water.
Aperture area
Transparent collector opening through which solar radiation reaches the absorber.
Ballon tampon
Insulated heating-water vessel used to add system volume and separate heat-source and distribution circuits.
Combi tank (tank-in-tank)
Storage vessel combining a heating-water buffer with an inner domestic-hot-water tank.
COP (coefficient of performance)
Ratio of heat output to electrical input at a defined test condition.
Domestic hot water (DHW)
Potable hot water used for showers, washing and kitchens, distinct from heating-circuit water.
Drainback system
Solar thermal arrangement that drains collector fluid into a reservoir when circulation stops.
ErP energy label
EU energy-efficiency label used for products such as heat pumps, boilers and hot-water equipment.
Vase d’expansion
Pressurised vessel with a membrane that absorbs thermal expansion of water or glycol.
F-gas regulation
EU framework that phases down fluorinated greenhouse gases and restricts their use in specified equipment.
Capteur solaire plan
Glazed, insulated solar thermal panel that converts sunlight into useful heat.
GWP (global warming potential)
Measure comparing a gas's warming effect with CO₂ over a defined time horizon.
Heat exchanger coil
Tube coil inside a tank that transfers heat between separate fluid circuits.
Pompe à chaleur
Electrically driven system that moves heat from a lower-temperature source to a higher-temperature sink.
Hydraulic separation
Arrangement that decouples heat-source flow from distribution circuits so pumps can operate independently.
Magnesium anode
Sacrificial rod that protects enamel-lined hot-water tanks from corrosion.
Pompe à chaleur monobloc
Air-to-water heat pump with the refrigerant circuit sealed inside one outdoor unit.
Pool heat pump
Heat pump designed to transfer ambient heat into swimming-pool water.
PV-T hybrid panel
Hybrid solar panel that produces electricity and recovers useful low-temperature heat from the same roof area.
R290 (propane)
Natural hydrocarbon refrigerant with very low GWP, classified as highly flammable.
R32
Single-component HFC refrigerant with lower GWP than R410A but mild flammability.

Working fluid that absorbs heat during evaporation and releases it during condensation.
SCOP (seasonal coefficient of performance)
Seasonal average efficiency of a heat pump calculated across representative operating conditions.
Solar fraction
Share of annual hot-water or heating demand covered by solar energy.

Stratification
Natural layering of hot and cold water in a storage tank caused by density differences.
